Tom Emmer, Republican, newly elected Member of Congress from Minnesota’s 6th District, opened his victory speech with, “They tell us all the time that when one door closes another one opens. As I’ve told many of you, they do not tell us how miserable it is to wait in the hallway.”
On Tuesday, Emmer defeated Democrat Joe Perske by nearly 18 percentage points.
In 2010 Emmer lost his race for governor to Democrat Mark Dayton. Since then he has been a right wing radio host until Rep. Michele Bachmann announced she was retiring, leaving an open door for Emmer to be elected to Congress.
