A majority of delegates to Minnesota’s Democratic party convention don’t like the current “super delegate” system that gives party officers and elected officials an independent say in who gets the national party’s endorsement for president.
It took about two hours on Saturday for DFL delegates to debate and vote on a non-binding resolution calling for a change in the system, and for current super delegates to cast their ballots to reflect the popular vote in Minnesota’s caucuses.
Senator Bernie Sanders won the popular vote in Minnesota over Hillary Clinton 61% to 38%. However the majority of DFL party officers and elected officials who are super delegates say they will vote for Clinton.
The resolution passed 552.5 to 480.5 (some delegates count as half votes) with most Sanders supporters voting yes and most Clinton supporters voting no.
